Volunteers Needed for Lifesaving National Coastwatch Institution in West Shore, Llandudno.

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, is calling for residents to volunteer with the National Coastwatch Institution in West Shore, Llandudno.

The ask for support comes after her recent visit to the trailer-mounted lookout station, which has been beside the Dale Road carpark in West Shore since August 2020.

At present the team is made up of 15 volunteers, who succeed to cover most hours of daylight. Should you like to join the group please get in touch with NCI direct or the office of Mrs Finch-Saunders.

Commenting after her visit, Janet said:

“A special thanks must go to all the team at NCI Llandudno. Their work saves lives, and helps ensure that all of us using the beach and Conwy estuary are safe.

“There are several hazards for all to be aware of, including sand banks that become fully submerged, strong currents, and offshore winds.

“West Shore is absolutely magnificent, but we all must be extremely careful if entering the water or walking to sand banks in low tide.

“Such are the risks, that I cannot emphasise enough how fantastic it would be should more people be able to volunteer their time to help the Coastwatch team”.
