Two Deserving Families Become Guests of Honour At Aberdeen FC vs St Mirren Game at Pittodrie

  • Health Shield Friendly Society and The Archie Foundation provided five children and their families a day to remember at the match between Aberdeen FC and St Mirren on December 30th
  • Health Shield Friendly Society bids a fond farewell to The Dons after five years as the club’s Official Health & Wellbeing Partner

Two deserving families were provided with incredible hospitality at the recent Aberdeen FC vs St Mirren football match at Pittodrie. The families were guests from The Archie Foundation, a charity that provides vital help for children and families through challenging medical times, including maternity and neonatal care, child bereavement, financial support, hospital accommodation and much more. The charity is now a key provider of support to families across the North of Scotland and positively impacts the care of more than 175,000 sick children every year.

The invitation was thanks to the support of Health Shield Friendly Society, who have been Aberdeen FC’s Official Health and Wellbeing Partner over the past five years, supporting better health and wellbeing in the local community. This game marked the end of their successful relationship.  As well as watching the game from the best seats in the ground, both families were presented with goodie bags, including scarves and a cuddly Donny the Sheep, one of the beloved Aberdeen FC mascots, for the children.

Jacqui Carr, CEO at Health Shield Friendly Society, commented: “We were absolutely delighted to be able to provide these two wonderful families from The Archie Foundation with an unforgettable experience at Aberdeen Football Club. Being able to provide this hospitality felt like a great way to close the year and see our partnership with Aberdeen Football Club end on a high. Helping to look after people within the local community is very much aligned to our own values and this relationship has helped us to bring these to life. As the club’s Official Health & Wellbeing Partner for the last five years, we can see the difference they have made to the local area, especially through the Covid-19 pandemic, working with fantastic organisations such as The Archie Foundation which has helped so many families across Northern Scotland.”

Jane Watson, Bereavement Support Worker at The Archie Foundation commented: “Partnering with Health Shield has been wonderful. They have gone above and beyond to give fantastic opportunities to our bereaved children and young people. Their generosity and hospitality is hugely appreciated, by our families and as staff. Visiting these families at such a hard time and being able to offer them a wonderful experience, is a privilege. The difference getting out and about, and having fun is immeasurable. It reminds our children and young people that they are allowed to have a bit of fun, even at an extremely difficult time in their lives.”

India and Talia Thain who attended the match commented: “We had the best day. Thank you so much for making us feel so welcome. Everyone was so lovely and kind.”

Robbie Hedderman, Commercial Director at Aberdeen Football Club commented: “Everyone at Aberdeen FC is celebrating the fantastic five-year partnership we have had with Health Shield. Their unwavering support has been a testament to their genuine care for our fans. The VIP hospitality at Pittodrie Stadium gifted to two families from The Archie Foundation during the recent St Mirren game exemplifies Health Shield’s commitment to not just being a partner, but a compassionate force in our community. This gesture resonates with the core values that make Health Shield an exceptional partner, demonstrating their dedication to making a positive impact beyond the realm of football.”
