Top Tips For A Stress-Free Relocation

People relocate for a variety of reasons, some of which have to do with money, change in career, personal connections or a shift in the family dynamic.

Here are a few tips to help you stay focused, healthy and relocate to your new home as smoothly as possible:

1.Embrace an optimistic perspective

As a result of extreme stress, we can become pessimistic, which can lead to further stress but remaining positive is vital. It’s important to look at your relocation and the many benefits it can bring, such as socialising, discovering a new area and finding different activities.

2.Make a list of your moving plan

Real life continues while you are planning your move, so it can feel like there’s a lot to remember.

Making a list of everything you need to accomplish will save you so much time (and potentially money as well) and helps you to clearly visualise your moving schedule. Making a list will help you keep track of everything and makes it impossible to forget something.

3.Get rid of the unnecessary items

Relocating, settling down and already being amongst clutter is far from ideal. Using your relocation as an opportunity to assess what you do and don’t need can go a long way in helping to make the process much easier and quicker.

By minimising the amount of items you are taking with you, you can lower your stress levels as with each item, it is one less thing to worry about. Donating to charity shops is always a great option but equally, hiring a skip for a weekend can help you clear a lot of the unnecessary items that are taking up space (both physical and mental).

4. Maintain a single location for all of your important data

It goes without saying but get yourself organised! Keeping all of your critical documents in one place, such as passports, phone numbers, property deeds, a will, moving contract, insurance paperwork… the list goes on. Keep the items safe, make copies and keep those safe too.

5. Outsource the difficult jobs

Moving companies exist to help make this process so much easier. Hiring a van and a team for a day can be an inexpensive way to save you the physical toll of carrying things to and from cars and making multiple journeys throughout the day.

Equally, companies exist that can handle the sale of your home. Home buying companies can offer to buy your home on a timeline that suits you (with some offering a quick house sale in as little as seven days) which means you do not have to go through the difficulties of selling your home on the open market.

5.Prepare your new house before you move in

Renovation jobs like resurfacing floors, painting walls and installing new fixtures is much simpler if you aren’t in the middle of unpacking. A thorough clean of your new home is a great way to get one thing off of your to-do list before you move in.

Once you have fully relocated, you will no doubt need to make a number of adjustments, such as changing your delivery address, notifying your bank and register with a new, local GP.

It can all seem quite overwhelming at first but if you break it down layer by layer, your whole relocating process can be stress-free. There are countless guides and services that can help you along the way so there is no need to worry about missing a step as you go
