Sunderland care home staff nominated in prestigious industry awards

A care home manager in Sunderland has been nominated for awards in one of the care sector’s most prestigious awards.

Five members of the Ashlea Lodge Care Home in Millfield have been shortlisted in The Great British Care Awards, North East Region – a series of regional events throughout the UK that celebrate excellence across the care sector. The purpose of the awards is to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.

Gill Varley has qualified in the Registered Manager category along with Joanne Dodds and Lynn Freckleton who also qualified in the Care Home Worker category. Chantal Cloughton was also successful in her nomination and was shortlisted in the Dementia Carer category and Maria Hackett has also qualified for The Care Home Cook/Chef award.

The 21 award categories represent all areas of the social care sector, whether it be older people or specialist services, residential or home care. From frontline staff such as care workers and care managers to people who have made an impact in other ways such as training and innovation.

Gill, Lynn, Joanne, Chantal and Maria were nominated for giving 200% to all areas of their work and consistently ensuring the residents have all they need and more. They are all delighted to have reached the second stage of judging and look forward to the announcement of the winners at the 2020 Regional Finals which, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, will be held at the Gala Evening on Thursday 6th May at the Grand Hotel in Gosforth.
