Monetise your walk during National Walking Month with Shepper

Join 15,000 people who currently earn as they walk

Shepper, which provides smart asset checks to a range of businesses, has revealed half its community complete their gigs on foot, allowing them to earn on their daily walk.

With 95% of checks being available within five minutes from them, 72% of ‘Shepherds’ travel to their gig on foot or by bike, making it one of the more environmentally friendly ways to earn money. One Shepherd recently fed back they had walked over 20 miles in one day.

Lindsay Forster, CEO at Shepper, said: “During National Walking Month, we want to encourage people to join our community of 35,000 Shepherds, the majority of whom carry out their gigs by bike or on foot. It’s a great way to stay fit and healthy and earn some money at the same time.”

A typical gig takes five minutes to complete and the average remuneration is £5 per gig. In 2020, the most earned was almost £7,000 and the monthly average was £54. The top Shepherd earned just over £3,000 in a month.

Forster continued: “We recognise 49% of our Shepherds are in full-time employment so we want to help our community fit these gigs around their already busy lives. By providing local work for local people, we are able to provide our clients with a sustainable solution and also ensure truly democratic access to work.”

“In addition, we want to make our app more accessible to all ability levels and we are looking at ways in which we can include messaging around which locations are wheelchair friendly – look out for more on this soon.”

Nick, a Shepherd from Bristol, who now relies partly on a mobility scooter after having two strokes commented: “I’m really pleased that Shepper is looking into more accessible solutions for people of all ability levels. While I’m lucky that I can walk a little bit to get around smaller stores to complete jobs, my scooter has made me very aware that people in wheelchairs would struggle. Things like tills being low enough, ramps and automated doors are a necessity – having this flagged on the app would be incredibly helpful to people like me.”
