Families overlook ‘Live-In Care’ for older relatives due to fears over costs

A recent survey by Enhanced Living into families who support a loved one revealed that 98.5% of people would prefer to stay in their own home rather than move to a care-home. However, many families overlook the option of Live-In Care because they believe it will be too expensive.

Residential care-home costs have skyrocketed in recent years, partly due to the increased costs of providing support and the rising costs of property. With care-home costs averaging between £700-£1600 per week, it can be challenging for families to find a care provision for their loved one which caters for all of their needs. Recent reports have indicated that care home residents could be facing alarming fee increases of up to £240 per month this year, with COVID-19 and Brexit cited as contributing factors.

Almost all families prefer for their loved ones to stay in their own home if at all possible. Furthermore, the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic has led to many care-home residents spending long periods of time in their room without mental stimulation or visits from family, something which can be detrimental to both their physical and emotional health.

Live-In Care is a well established alternative to a care home provision which allows older people to continue living independently and remain at home for as long as possible, but is frequently overlooked by families when they are considering care options for their loved one. It is, however, a surprisingly affordable way of providing high quality care.

“The quality of care provided by Live-In Carers is exceptional and the average costs start from £895 per week for individuals and from £945 per week for couples. This makes it highly comparable to the costs of a care-home whilst also providing many additional emotional and social benefits for the older person,” explains Geoff Baxter, founder of Enhanced Living.

Geoff knows first hand the challenges faced by families looking for appropriate care for their loved ones. “My family really struggled to find a proper care-home for my Gran,” explains Geoff. “The care-homes that we looked at were expensive, soulless, and full of underpaid and disinterested staff. We all feel safest in our own homes and that’s why Live-In Care is a brilliant alternative to a care-home.”

Families considering Live-In Care are naturally concerned about finding the right carer, which is why Geoff created Enhanced Living, a company which specialises in Live-In Care.

“All our carers are interviewed and vetted to ensure that your loved ones will get the best care possible. We only provide quality carers, who are experienced and skilled in their area. We pride ourselves on using carers who have great personal qualities which are perfectly suited to caring for others. They are carers we would choose to look after our own family members” explains Geoff.
