Easter Holiday’s Pirate Takeover: Train to become a pirate on board The Golden Hinde in London

 – A unique experience for the whole family uncovering the history of pirates –

– 3rd to 16th April 2023 – 10am to 6pm – 

Peg-legs and parrots at the ready this Easter as The Golden Hinde, the magnificent full-size replica of the famous Elizabethan galleon Golden Hinde, captained by Sir Francis Drake, is inviting families to step aboard to take part in pirate themed activities and Pirate Training sessions to uncover the history of pirates from all around the world.

This authentic reconstruction has been a much loved museum for 50 years, has traveled the world and has resided at St Mary Overie’s Dock for nearly 30 years, next to London Bridge and Borough Market.

Standard admission this Easter includes Pirate Takeover activities*, along with the opportunity to explore the ship and discover what life was really like on a 16th century ship. This costs £6 per person or family admission (4 people) for £18.

Families can also take part in 45-minute Pirate Training sessions with the ship’s master, ideal for children aged 5 to 10 years old, which take place on selected days throughout the Easter holidays at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. These sessions cost £12 per child and £6 per adult.

)n Easter Sunday there is a Pirate Gold Easter Treasure Hunt at 11am and 2pm for visitors to explore all of the ship’s decks to find Golden Coins. Visit The Golden Hinde’s What’s on page for more information and ticket booking for Easter activities.

On 5th April, The Golden Hinde is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a fun filled day of activities for visitors of all ages, including experts in Elizabethan swordsmanship showcasing fighting demonstrations that were popular in London during the Elizabethan period and The HogEye Men, London’s premier sea shanty crew singing sea songs and shanties.

Visitors can also take part in craft activities including designing a pirate flag and creating a 50th birthday card for the ship, plus there will be an anniversary speech from the Director Roddy Coleman, followed by the cutting of the birthday cake to commemorate the occasion.  All activities on this day are included in the admission price, and visitors are welcome to join in the festivities.

To mark its 50th year, The Golden Hinde is launching a major fundraising campaign to raise funds to carry out essential maintenance work throughout the anniversary year, which includes new rigging.
