Park Plaza Cardiff joins ‘Giving to Pink’ for an October full of fundraising afternoon teas

Park Plaza has linked up with local charity Giving to Pink to offer afternoon teas throughout October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Renowned for serving a superb selection of afternoon teas, Park Plaza will donate 10% of proceeds for each afternoon tea sold during the month to the charity which is close to its hearts.

Giving to Pink is a group of fundraisers whose lives have been touched in some way by breast cancer and was founded by Clare Smart during her own journey through breast cancer in 2014. The group, in its ninth year, consists of patients, their friends and families, in addition to healthcare professionals within the Cwm Taf University Health Board. Clare sadly passed away in August this year, but the community continues to pull together and do great things in the best interest of others.

Giving to Pink was born out of Clare’s determination to give something back to the hospital and clinical teams that looked after her so well following her breast cancer diagnosis. During the years that followed, Clare was resolute that the centre of excellence for breast care patients would become a reality and fundraising efforts have over time been supported by the community.

Giving To Pink has now raised over £300,000 and the centre of excellence, named The Snowdrop Centre, officially opens on 21st September 2023. Fundraising will continue to improve the centre internally to ensure the best environment and highest standards of care for breast cancer patients and the link up with the Park Plaza, Cardiff couldn’t have come at a better time.

Clare’s husband, Gareth Smart, wants to ensure that Clare’s legacy lives on and was delighted when the Park Plaza, Cardiff approached him to ask if they could be a part of this fundraising drive during the month of October. Gareth said: “Clare loved life and enjoyed time with friends and family in the Park Plaza, Cardiff over the years. I couldn’t think of a better way to raise funds in Clare’s memory and am grateful to Margaret and her team at the Park Plaza for their enthusiasm and passion in supporting Giving to Pink.

“Giving to Pink was Clare’s legacy to the community, and she continued to work tirelessly during the last weeks and days of her life, ensuring the good work would continue. We hope her legacy lives on through the work that the charity does in the future and this fundraising partnership with the Park Plaza, Cardiff certainly will play an essential part to ensure it does.”

Margaret Waters, General Manager at Park Plaza, Cardiff, said: “We are thrilled to support a very worthy local charity where every penny made goes directly to Giving To Pink. We hope to attract as many guests as possible to enjoy our Pink Afternoon Tea. What better way of raising funds than enjoying a superb afternoon tea with friends and family?”
