Why you should be using natural moisturising products

Put simply, natural skincare is created with ingredients that are found in and derived from nature. This creates products which are free from synthetic fragrances, parabens, dyes, phthalates, and sulphates.

These botanical ingredients have a therapeutic effect on the skin, as well as being responsibly sourced. These days, we’re much more aware of what we’re putting into our bodies, and this includes what we’re putting onto our skin.

Natural skincare has never been so popular. Here, we break down why you should be using natural moisturising products.

More moisture than ever before

We need our skin to absorb moisture to keep it soft and supple, and luckily, our skin does a very good job of doing this.

The bad news is that the skin can’t distinguish what is good for it and what isn’t – skin absorbs anything! We walk around in polluted air and allow the free radicals to get to us. We can’t see them or feel them, and the only way to protect from them is to use a high quality, natural moisturiser.

Natural moisturisers help keep skin hydrated, preventing cracks and damage to skin cells, and work to balance and brighten your skin.

Less chance of irritation

Natural moisturising products, like those offered by Doctor A, are much gentler on the skin, which means less chance of irritation. More often than not, we stick to the products we know for fear of a breakout, flare up, or allergy if we change products, but this can be very limiting to your skincare journey.

Natural products aren’t filled with chemicals and in general contain less ingredients – they’re a much safer bet if you have sensitive or eczema-prone skin.

Avoid parabens at all costs

Parabens are a group of preservatives which are used in lots of skincare products, medications, cosmetics, food, and even industrial products.

The most commonly found parabens in skincare products are butylparaben, methylparaben, and propylparaben. Not only are these parabens damaging to the environment, but there are also growing concerns about their use in skincare products.

Parabens don’t just sit on our skin – they integrate into us and remain in our bodily tissues. This means they could potentially lead to the formation of cancerous cells. There is also evidence which suggests parabens mimic the effect of oestrogen, which again links to the threat of cancer as well as infertility.

On a less serious level, repeated exposure to parabens can flare up skin sensitivities and allergies. Natural moisturising products are generally paraben free.

Better for the environment

It’s no secret that skincare products jampacked with chemicals have a negative impact on the environment. To extract ingredients like aluminium and lead means manufacturing processes which require mining, producing pollution and wreaking havoc on the environment.

During the manufacturing process, the majority of the chemicals end up in the water and air, which has the potential to harm animals and plants. Then, when we use these products, we wash the excess chemicals down the drain – leading them to soil and water where they can harm sea life and microorganisms.

Natural moisturising products tend to be made by companies with a much stronger social conscience.

Natural skincare = cruelty free

Although they keep it quiet, an alarming amount of skincare product manufacturers still test their products on animals. They purpose breed rats, mice, guinea pigs, and rabbits in secretive facilities, with the animals living their lives confined to small cages, poor-quality food, and artificial light.

Conversely, natural skincare product manufacturers usually don’t test on animals and maintain a cruelty-free position. Compared to synthetic brands, these companies are way more ethical in their practices. You can enjoy your moisturising product guilt free!

They can be more effective

If you’re looking for a moisturising product which truly does what you need it to, opt for a natural product. Natural products are packed with rich and useful ingredients which are specifically targeted to improve the skin. Many of these ingredients have been used for centuries, developed in ancient times as remedies for the skin.

What better test than the test of time? Avoid the controversy which surrounds synthetic skincare and go for a truly effective product.

Hopefully, the above will have given you some inspiration to consider natural moisturising products much more seriously than you might have done in the past. Indeed, they might well be the much safer option.
