How to Get the Clean Girl Look

If you’ve opened TikTok, a magazine or any beauty community YouTube video lately, no doubt you’ve seen “The Clean Girl Look”. A side effect leftover from lockdown, The Clean Girl Look is an attempt to look like you’re not wearing makeup, while wearing makeup. It’s nothing revolutionary, but it’s taking off. The neon eyeshadow palettes and femme fatale red lipsticks are out, and the freckles and bare minimum are in. So, what do you need to nail The Clean Girl Look? We have a few ideas. Take a look at our suggestions to always be ready to go.

Clear skin

As you might guess from the name, The Clean Girl Look is a very minimal look and basically revolves around the, at least pretence, that no foundation is involved, so that means you have to nail your skincare routine. This can be easier than you think. Rather than spending mountains on the latest acid, a few small changes can make all the difference. A lot of people swear by Dove soap rather than the heavily perfumed and chemical-filled cleansers, in pair with double cleansing to entirely change their routine. You can look up how to melt bar soap into liquid if you’re worried about a germ-filled bar.

Of course, there are some things that a good cleansing routine can help, but not eradicate. For those issues, contact City Skin Clinic for some extra help.

Colour corrector

But some of us were simply born with blusher all over our faces, or dark circles no matter how much sleep we get. In that case, you should invest in a light colour corrector. If you get the right one, like Dr Jart’s Cicapair colour correcting treatment, which looks green but goes on like a light foundation, turning red skin clear.

A very light foundation

However, if you simply feel naked without a foundation, you might want to look into a tinted moisturiser, or make your own. Because a tinted moisturiser is, exactly like you think, simply a moisturiser with some concealer mixed in. With that in mind, you can grab a bottle of a simple, fragrance free moisturiser and apply it like foundation after your skincare routine. It will be light enough to allow your natural freckles to shine through but give you a little light coverage.

Brow dye/soap

Now to the most important part. Our obsession with brows isn’t going away anytime soon and it is a pivotal part of The Clean Girl Look. They are in the spotlight here, typically strong and ordered but without too much work. As long as they’re dyed, or lacking the need to dye them, you can leave the pencil or pomade alone and instead just keep them in place with some brow soap.

Glossy balm

And you can finish the whole look off with the right lipstick. Our suggestion would be to go with a glossy, wet look balm. You’ll look good and look after those chapped or chewed on lips in the process, which is the beauty of The Clean Girl Look in the first place: enhancing what you have rather than covering it up.
