St Andrew’s Healthcare in Northamptonshire aims to boost recruitment and attract more diverse candidates

St Andrew’s Healthcare in Northampton, a charity providing specialist mental healthcare for patients, is seeking to boost the recruitment of people from all backgrounds and ethnicities and has several exciting new job opportunities available, as they transform their wards, including commissioning new autistic wards.

St Andrew’s Healthcare is an NHS England Diversity and Inclusion partner, and recently launched its latest Diversity and Inclusion report which details the charity’s commitment to inclusive healthcare and how they are growing their people and culture.

Around 20% of staff at St Andrew’s are Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME), which is higher than the national average of 12%, and in line with the NHS, where 21% of staff identify as BAME. Also, many of the Clinical Directors are from a BAME heritage, and 15% of Board members come from a BAME background – one of the highest figures in the UK.

St Andrew’s also recently supported LGBT+ History month[i]  and has had an active LGBTQ+ network for several years, which aims to help people feel they can ‘bring their whole self to work’, because those that feel they must hide their identity in the workplace often suffer in terms of both wellbeing and performance.

The hospital is currently seeking a Consultant in Old Age Psychiatrist / Neuropsychiatrist to work in its neuropsychiatry division, which offers specialist services for patients with Dementia and Acquired Brain Injuries. The care and rehabilitation offered by St Andrew’s is recognised as being at the forefront of innovative service developments, for its excellence in service delivery and ability to manage and reduce risks associated with these conditions.

The successful candidate will lead a multi-disciplinary team and oversee the management of patients. They will promote the innovation and improvement of services and will have scope to develop their specialist interests and grow their responsibilities. They will be actively encouraged to be a leader nationally in mental health and influence the future of the services. The closing date for applications is 28th March 2021.

St Andrew’s also has vacancies for staff / senior staff nurses to use their nursing knowledge and expertise at one of the most pioneering, patient-centric mental health and learning disabilities specialists in the country. There are 15 Integrated Practice Units designed to deliver the best possible outcomes and giving nurses the chance to specialise within a service of their choice. The closing date for applications is 28th March 2021.

The hospital is also recruiting a Deputy Ward Manager for its Cranford Ward specialising in men’s mental health.  The successful candidate will be one of the most senior nurses on the ward and have excellent leadership skills and be able to maintain a high profile and visible presence, whilst working as part of the multi-disciplinary team. Experience of working within a secure environment is essential and the closing date for applications is 28th March 2021.

St Andrew’s is also seeking an Acting Clinical Nurse Leader for a 9 to 12 maternity cover role in its ASD and LD division to meet the clinical needs of adults with diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Learning Disability. The heart of its service is the multidisciplinary team of dedicated specialist clinicians that integrates knowledge and skills to provide outstanding care and treatment for our patients. The closing date for applications is 28th March 2021.

An opportunity has also arisen for an Occupational Health Nurse to join St Andrew’s Occupational Health and Wellness team. The successful candidate will help shape the Occupational Health team and department and work closely with the overall organisation to help improve the physical and mental health and wellbeing of our staff.

For all these roles, candidates who may be considering relocating will benefit from lower cost housing and living, making Northampton a far more affordable place to live than major metropolitan centres, with the opportunity to advance their careers in a leading mental health facility.
