Pharmacy opportunities for those seeking a better work life balance in Primary Care across Northamptonshire

Northamptonshire NHS Healthcare Foundation Trust is working alongside Northants General Practice Alliance (GPA)[i] to recruit pharmacists seeking a fresh challenge in a new location.

Last year it was reported by charity, the Health Foundation that the number of pharmacists working in general practice in England shot up between 2019 and 2021 by 277% under the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS) [ii].

Pharmacy technicians also increased after they were added to the scheme. The NHS has a target to recruit 26,000 patient care staff – including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians’ ­– into general practice roles in England by 2023/24 and introduced ARRS in 2019.

Pharmacists looking to relocate and move into general practice should consider the following roles in Northamptonshire – a county with quick transport links to London and Birmingham and renowned for affordable housing, great schools and access to stunning countryside.

The roles include two clinical pharmacist roles and two pharmacy technician roles for Primary Care Networks (PCN) across Northamptonshire with the aim to enhance the patient experience within primary care. The four available roles are:

 

Clinical pharmacist for Grand Union PCN  and Clinical pharmacist for MMWF PCN – both positions are flexible/part-time or hybrid working roles, which offer a great work life balance for a pharmacists looking for a change of pace.  As an integral part of the practice team, the roles involve answering medicine queries, delivering structured medication reviews, supporting care home patients with their medicines and working closing with the pharmacy technicians. The salary is £41,659 to £47,672 a year.

 

Pharmacy technician for Grand Union PCN and Pharmacy technician for MMWF PCN – both are full-time or part-time positions and involve working across multiple GP practices as part of both a larger clinical pharmacy team and practice teams. A key part of the role is replying to same day medication queries and ensuring medication safety.  They may also be responsible for the ordering of blood tests and other monitoring requirements for patients on high risk medicines. The salary is £24,999 to £32,934 a year.
