Dr Sanjith Kamath, Executive Medical Director at St Andrew’s will be giving a presentation at 12.30pm about the Charity and its vision for the future.

Head of Recruitment talks about the package of care

David Anthony, Head of Recruitment at St Andrew’s says,

“Our last recruitment day in May was a huge success with 243 attendees. We hope to encourage more nurses, healthcare professionals and hotel services assistants to come along to our next recruitment day and have a look at what we do here and find out about the roles available.

“We work with over 800 patients, mainly referred through the NHS, and provide care across a number of services. We develop innovative ways to help patients recover, creating a package of care designed for patients’ individual preferences and needs. We focus on physical and spiritual wellbeing, as well as mental health.

“Working in mental health offers a number of very specialised career paths. You’re there to help people on their journey – this means that you will be presented with a variety of new challenges every day, and you get the rewards of seeing the change and improvement in patients,” adds Mr Anthony.

From caring to IT – and back again – Gregory’s story

Gregory Martin has been a Healthcare Assistant in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) at St Andrew’s since 2014. Gregory had worked in the care sector before but then took a job with an IT company. He soon found that he missed working in a caring role so applied for a healthcare assistant post at St Andrew’s.

Gregory explains,

“I quickly settled in at St Andrew’s and began to enjoy going to work again. Best of all was the feeling I was helping people and not just sitting behind a desk from morning until night. I enjoy building a rapport with the young people I work with and having a positive effect on their lives. It is uplifting to see somebody move back into the community after having come in to our care in the midst of a crisis.

“At St Andrew’s I have also had the opportunity to undertake additional training and am currently studying for my Certificate of Higher Education in Mental Health through Northampton University to help me become a qualified nurse.”

From newly qualified to Ward Manager – Shannon’s story

Ward Manager, Shannon Graham joined St Andrew’s in 2011 as a newly qualified nurse and has progressed up through the Charity to her current role.

Shannon says,

“There really is no other place like St Andrew’s. We have such a diverse patient group, with a range of varying complexities, that you can become extremely skilled. My managers have always encouraged my personal development and now as Ward Manager I enjoy supporting my own team whilst remaining clinically involved in the care of patients on the ward. I know that should I wish to progress further I’ll be supported in this by both my manager and St Andrew’s.”

St Andrew’s is also part of the ‘Best of Both Worlds’ recruitment campaign which aims to attract hundreds of nurses and healthcare professionals to relocate and work in Northamptonshire. The campaign unites the University of Northampton, Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Northampton General Hospital, Kettering General Hospital, St Andrew’s Healthcare and Northants GPs.
