Nurses Wanted: Northamptonshire NHS seeks six Band 5 nurses for a new community hospital that opened in Brackley in October 2020

Brackley Medical Centre and Community Hospital opened in October 2020, housing a community beds ward run by Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT), amongst other services.

NHFT is currently recruiting six Band 5 nurses to work at this brand new site to help shape and deliver the service.  This is an exciting and unique opportunity to help establish a new facility and be part of a fresh team at the award-winning Northamptonshire Trust.

The community hospital inpatient beds ward is similar to three other services that NHFT runs across the county at Isebrook Hospital in Wellingborough, Danetre Hospital in Daventry, and Corby Community Hospital. The hospital will provide specialist care for adults needing medical, physical or specialist rehabilitation.

Megan Nannfeldt recently joined the new hospital as ward matron with responsibility for the daily running of the ward. Megan graduated from Coventry University in 2014 with a Diploma in Adult Nursing and after working for almost a year as an acute medical ward nurse; she joined a specialist Brain Injury unit. Within two years she was appointed as a Band 6 Clinical Sister. During this time, she became passionate about rehabilitation nursing and decided to further her career at NHFT by joining the new unit.

Megan says, “The new hospital will enable patients to remain local and close to their families, and it will offer rehabilitation treatment from a broad, multidisciplinary team including occupational therapists and physiotherapists. Being a new hospital, I am able to be involved in the set up and furnishing of the ward and the recruitment of a carefully chosen team of staff, who together will help to build a pleasant, effective and great working environment. There are exciting opportunities ahead with great scope for development and progression, and I am confident this hospital will hugely benefit the local community.”

NHFT is looking for nurses who are proactive, dedicated and have the vision, passion and skills to implement new patient pathways, and committed to delivering excellent high quality patient care. The ward is located in a new building with a wide range services co-located in it, so nurses will also be involved in developing strong links with other services and the wider community.

In the most recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection NHFT was recognised with an ‘Outstanding’ rating and its vision is to continue to be a leading provider of outstanding compassionate care. This extends to staff too and the Trust prioritises wellbeing.

Benefits of working at NHFT include:

  • Family Friendly policies, such as flexible working and support for working carers
  • Occupational Health and wellbeing services, including fitness classes, free and confidential psychological support services, discounted gym memberships and more
  • Free staff networks, including LGBTQ+, Disability and BME groups
  • Over 200 learning and development courses available
  • Salary sacrifice scheme
  • Staff bank, allowing employees to gain experience and supplement income with additional shifts
  • Minimum 27 days annual leave (rising with length of service) plus bank holidays
